My interest in this field began during my childhood with an incidence that introduced me to hospitals and medicine. My mother was also afflicted with a speech disorder which fueled my interest in this specialized field. I see myself as a passionate caring individual who will do everything I can to help another human being restore their voice or swallow. I founded The Voice and Swallow Center, Inc. as a private, nonprofit 501 (c) (3) agency in 2004 with supporters dedicated to providing education, research, and state-of-the-art diagnosis for voice, swallowing and airway disorders and their prevention.
I help individuals release their voice by recognizing that they are unique and no one sounds exactly like them. One’s voice is their imprint on the universe. I’ve had patients say, “Rebecca, it’s hard to be me when I don’t sound like me.” How I can help:
• “Boot camp” for swallowing and help people who are not eating get back to eating so they can enjoy holidays with their loved ones
• Airway disorders and people who cough so frequently they can’t go out because people think they’re contagious
• Fluency and neurogenic disorders
• State-of-the-art instrumental procedures including fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing and videostroboscopy I train communication effectiveness in corporate messaging.
I also do accent reduction and study of body language. I work with people who have had a laryngectomy, most likely due to head and neck cancer, which resulted in removal of their larynx.
